Preliminary Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

Mise en scene

Costume- The college student is presented in the usual college fashion wearing bright colors. The red top matches the masthead which attracts the variety of college students. Also the students outfit is very attractive and makes the magazine fun meeting thee target audience.

Setting- The student is in a green area which is also the magazine background. The setting shows the usual places teenagers go as they do spend time at parks and take part in sports. The girl that represents usual college girls shows she is invovled in sports -an educational curriculam. This is therefore the ideal setting for a college magazine.

Lighting- the high key lighting enhances the college student and masthead. The high key lighting also brightens up the cover making it much more fun and attractive. This also helps the setting as it is a brightday where students will take part in sports at there college.

NVC-The subject has a relaxed body language. Her facial expression shows that she is happy and enjoying her self. This creates a happy and positive atmosphare.

Masthead- the magazine masthead is bright red. It is contrasting with the green backgroud. This makes the masthead stand out and easy to recognise.

Main Image- a single image of a college student which is very vibrant and bold. This makes the magazine much more creative. The image of the girl is taken at mid shot this gives the advantage that the girl is looking directly at the audience.

Coverlines- the magazine has a variety of cover lines about college related topics, however they do not over power the main image.

Finally the magazine also consists of; a barcode which is used by retailers, left third which is empty and the date line which is small and coloured beneath the masthead.

Induction: Movie Poster Textual Analysis

In this movie poster there are many techniques used to make it more interesting and attract the audience.

Firstly for Mise en scene; the costume as the charecter is dressed in a khaki outfit, this is almost an heroic costume as he looks as if he is going on an adventure with his sweaty pasty skin. In the poster the low key lighting is contrasting with the high key lighting, this helps bring out the mans silhouette which is already showing his herioic character and creates mystery in the setting. There are many props such as the whip in the man's hand this can suggest he is going on an adventure, possibly in danger and in need of protection or even a dangeroud person. The NVC in the poster: the charecter is standing tall and proud with his fist tightly shut showing aggression and confidence. The Serif font is very comical and fun with strong colours attracting the audience and adding a comical tone to it. The setting's colour and caves shows mystery and makes the audience curious.

Induction:Re-creation of a movie magazine front cover

I found this magazine front cover interesting however, i usually only use the basics of photoshop. I learn't a few new things while re creating this magazine cover; I learnt how to edit, delete and add a layer. I also used the crop tool to enhance the smaller details from the other magazine.

Getting the back ground color was fairly simple and went well. The smaller detail was a bit more difficult to get accurate and didn't go so well. I want to expand my knowledge with photoshop and learn new techniques.
